On Mexico’s captivating Pacific Coast, Punta Mita has emerged as a shining star epitomizing refined luxury and natural beauty.

This exclusive, 1,500-acre private gated community in the Mexican State of Riveria Nayarit is a sanctuary for those who crave both relaxation and adventure. With its soft sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and lush mountain backdrops, Punta Mita is more than just a getaway—it’s an unparalleled experience of elegance, indulgence, and an opportunity to rest and recharge.

A Haven of Luxury to Rest Your Head at Night

Punta Mita’s charm lies in its ability to offer an atmosphere of seclusion and exclusivity. Far from the crowded tourist traps, it provides an intimate setting where luxurious accommodations are complemented by the natural beauty of the surrounding ocean and lush jungle. With some of the most distinguished resorts in the area, including The St. Regis Punta Mita and the Four Seasons Punta Mita, this region exudes lavishness.

The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort recently underwent a $45-million renovation. The extensive renovation included changes such as extensive room upgrades, an updated three-level pool with unobstructed ocean views, reinvented culinary experiences, and a reimagined spa.

Just a few minutes’ drive from The St. Regis is the Four Seasons Resort.  Set above a beautiful and accessible beach are 177 rooms, suites, and villas, four pools, a lazy river, and a highly sought after spa. The resort is designed to maximize views of Banderas Bay.

Not to be outdone is Naviva, a Four Seasons Resort that opened in 2022. The boutique resort offers an all-inclusive tented escape in the lush jungle. Only fifteen tented rooms are available, making it ideal for those seeking understated sophistication and privacy. The resort, although perched on a hill, offers beach and golf access, a pool, and a spa.

The gated community also includes over fifteen residential developments occupied by full-time and part-time residents and includes jaw-dropping vacation rentals.

I’ve stayed in two luxury vacation rentals, including Condo Azul, a one-level 3,000-square foot ocean view condo with a plunge pool, and the ultra-luxurious Casa Familia, an 11-bedroom villa complete with an oversized pool, private gym, on-site spa, direct access to a secluded beach, and pickleball and basketball courts.  If you are looking to get away with a large group, the staff at Casa Familia can cater to every need of even the most discerning traveler.

Here, luxury is woven into the very fabric of everyday life

Regardless of whether you choose to stay at a resort or a vacation rental, you can elevate your stay and wake up to the sound of gentle waves, with a private terrace overlooking a panoramic vista of Banderas Bay. Imagine starting your day with a leisurely breakfast delivered by a personal butler or private chef.

After breakfast, your day might include spending sun-soaked hours by an infinity pool or at one of the full-service beach clubs within the community. Guests might decide to go for a swim or, if the swell is cooperating, a surf session before dining under an exquisite blanket of stars.

A Culinary Journey Like No Other

In Punta Mita, dining is not just a meal; it’s a journey into the heart of Mexican culture, blended with global influences. The culinary offerings here are as diverse and rich as the landscape, inviting guests to savor everything from fresh seafood pulled straight from the ocean to refined international cuisine.

Restaurants inside Punta Mita, like Hector’s Kitchen and Mita Mary’s inside The St. Regis, keep diners coming back for more. But the dining experience can and should be extended outside the gates of Punta Mita into the city of Punta de Mita. Restaurants like Mina, an outdoor restaurant where diners watch the sunset over the ocean while dining on upscale Mexican fare, and Si Senior, where patrons dine on fresh sushi, are extremely popular.

Punta Mita’s culinary landscape is centered around fresh ingredients and innovative twists on Mexican classics. Here, the journey is as much about exploration as it is about taste, with menus that shift with the seasons to highlight the freshest local ingredients.

Unmatched Experiences for Every Traveler

For those seeking rejuvenation, world-class spas offer tailored treatments crafted to relax the senses and calm the mind. For adventure seekers, the peninsula offers a bounty of activities. Snorkeling, paddleboarding, and surfing in the clear, warm waters are just the beginning. For those who want to get outside the gates and are looking for an adventure, you might try hiking the infamous Monkey Mountain.  A guide is highly recommended as the trail constantly changes due to storm runoff in the rainy season, followed by vegetation overgrowth and the potential for wild animals that may cross your path.

Avid golfers flock to the two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, where the Pacific Ocean serves as both a backdrop and a challenge, especially at the famed “Tail of the Whale” hole, the world’s only natural island green. The five-star tennis club is also popular with tennis and pickleball enthusiasts. It includes a pro shop, locker room, rentals, and clinics to improve your game.

The magic of Punta Mita also extends to its unique experiences. Take a guided tequila tasting to discover Mexico’s most iconic spirit in all its glory, or participate in a cooking class that reveals the secrets of preparing traditional dishes with a modern flair. From horseback riding to whale-watching tours, where the activities are designed to highlight the region's vibrant heritage and breathtaking nature.

The Ultimate Luxury Retreat

Punta Mita is more than a destination; it is an invitation to experience life at its most elegant and enjoyable. Whether you’re visiting for a romantic escape, a family vacation, or a solo retreat, the peninsula’s combination of luxurious accommodations, exceptional dining, and unforgettable experiences ensures every traveler will find their own slice of paradise.
