Dear friends, today we received a wonderful postcard that traveled a long way – from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil! Thank you, Luis!
The postcard features the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, the most visited attraction in Rio de Janeiro and a powerful symbol of Brazil. This magnificent monument was completed in 1931, designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by French artist Paul Landowski. Standing 38 meters (125 feet) tall, including its pedestal, the statue towers over the city from the peak of Mount Corcovado, offering breathtaking views.
Fun fact: Few people know that at the statue's pedestal, there is a small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil. This chapel, built in 2006, allows couples to hold weddings and special ceremonies at one of the most stunning locations in the world.
